Ugh! The Sea! I don’t know how many times I’ve picked it up, but I know I’ve never made it more than a dozen pages!
I read the first pages of “Sonny’s Blues” aloud to all of my classes—I love the cadence of those sentences; love to point out those first iterations of the motifs of darkness and confinement… and then there’s that whistling fellow. Masterful!

Sonny's Blues really is a masterpiece. I'm always so impressed with his command of language and phrasing. His essays are excellent too, and great for teaching rhetorical strategies.
I'm really struggling to get through The Stained Glass Window by David Lewis. I am very interested in the material but his writing style is so overly complicated that it takes forever to read. Frustrating!!!
The final few pages of “Sonny’s Blues” — yes! A good choice for thinking aloud 💜

I'm always torn as to whether I should finish a book like that, pause, or abandon. There are food arguments for all stances.
