I teach Never Let Me Go too and I'm always amazed by how much my students love it, considering how slow it is to begin with. They love arguing about what frustrates them about it, and they love judging the characters -- perhaps because they can relate to their school-filled lives.

NLMG always seems to hit well with the kids. I agree, I think they find it relatable, and teenagers always love a good dystopia...
